A very good year for us!
October 19, 2011
If our posts have been infrequent since last Spring it’s not because we’re quiet- just the opposite infact- we’ve just enjoyed our busiest year of work ever! Filming has taken us all over the country and we’ve worked on some fascinating and challenging programmes. Our briefs have ranged from creating animations for an AGM of a major national charity to several documentaries with some very talented actors. Next month sees the beginning of a shoot with a humerous slant. The storyboard is largely finished and the resulting programme is destined for the States. We’ve also bought a lightweight portable ‘autocue’ system for our main camera which has proved invaluable for one project involving a dozen ‘pieces to camera’ by key personnel from a National Organisation based in Wales. Web delivery has played a major part in our growth this year. The feedback we’re getting is extremely encouraging, and we’re currently looking at offering a new service for hosting client’s films on a site constantly serviced and updated by us… watch this space!

Over the last few years we have been commissioned to make several films for the education sector which have been very well received. Now we have been awarded our most challenging brief to date. The project involves filming in various parts of Wales for a programme which will, eventually, be shown at the Welsh Assembly. In addition to the multi-language element in post production, we will be making a version with ’signing for the hearing impaired’ too. Our scriptwriter and director, Dave Simmonds, who has a background in producing and directing news and current affairs programmes for BBC Wales, has written a superb treatment and I, personally, cannot wait for filming to commence in the next few weeks.
Changing times…

Well, at last, we’ve taken the decison to make the leap into the world of HD. An upcoming film documentary project which will run over several years has made our mind up to make the programmes ‘future-proof’ by moving to high definition. Initially this will mean a second edit suite using the much anticipated version of Final Cut Pro X, and then an XDCAM camcorder which will record to solid state cards. All very exciting!
The next job…

Every so often, a phone call or e-mail comes through to us with a film brief that’s a little unusual. We’ve filmed in Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland, America and many other exciting destinations, and have always come back, not only with the footage, but with a new understanding of differing cultures and people. Today, however, we had only to travel 10 miles from our location to film a ’special needs’ school, and, in the process, we were humbled both by the professionalism of the staff and the effort made by the pupils towards what we take for granted, an education. We have been working on a film for the education sector over the last few weeks, and this was the final day’s shoot. Today made us realise that we are very lucky in this country to have such places. We only hope the film will do justice to such intitiatives. With some fantastic interviews and vox-pops from the teachers and pupils, we’ll certainly do our best in the edit!
Guilty or not guilty!

This was probably the most interesting Health and Safety film I’ve ever worked on. The brief was, to produce a TV ‘drama type’ programme that could be used in a ‘mock trial’ complete with a Judge,to decide who was at fault. The film showed events leading up to a serious incident on a building site, and was subsequently shown at The Liberty Stadium, Swansea, to an audience of several hundred delegates, who then had to vote in a Court Room scenario on whom they believed was at fault. So effective was the programme, that we were asked afterwards if it could be used at a leading UK firm of solicitors to help them train their people in such court case events!
